How to Clean Gaming Chair – Step by Step Guide

How to Clean Gaming Chair

If you’re like most gamers, you spend hours upon hours sitting in your gaming chair. And over time, that chair can get pretty grungy. Maybe you’ve spilled food or drink on it, or it’s simply seen better days. In any case, if you want your gaming chair to look and smell fresh again, there are a few things you can do.

In this article, we will guide you on how to clean a gaming chair and get it looking good as new.

Step-by-step guide on how to clean gaming chair

1. Check the material of the gaming chair

Gaming chairs come in different materials. The design and materials of your chair’s material have a significant influence on more than simply your comfort level; they also influence how efficiently it should be cleaned.

Some can be washed with soap and water, while others are impossible to clean. Ensure that the material of the gaming chair is not sensitive.

Do this by checking if it can resist water or not. If your chair can be drenched in water then it is possible for you to clean it using soap and water. But if the material struggles to take water, avoid cleaning with water at all costs.

The chair that you are using may possibly be made from a different material but in most cases, gaming chair brands mostly use any of these four materials for upholstery

  • PU Leather
  • Mesh
  • Fabric
  • PVC Leather

2. Gather your cleaning items

Once you’ve confirmed the material type of your gaming chair, you need to gather all the necessities that are used when cleaning a gaming chair like

  • Gloves
  • Mild water
  • Soft sponge
  • Rubbing Alcohol (in case of spot cleaning)

Before starting the cleaning, you will need to check what type of care tag is present on the back of the gaming chair.

If you see a ‘W’ mark on it, you have to clean it with water only but if you see an ‘S’ mark on it, you can clean it with a solvent-type solution. With some chairs, you will get to use the ‘S/W’ tag which means you can clean it by using only water or mixing any solvent with water. Most faux leather chairs are W-marked. For W-marked chairs, you can mix warm water with some dish soap.

For W-marked chairs, you can clean the chair by mixing a little bit of dish soap.

Here you have to be a little conscious. If you’re cleaning the gaming chair which is upholstered with PU leather, then gently wipe your gaming chair with a towel or soft sponge.

3. Spot Clean

The above approach may not be enough for deep stains. If you observe that after going through the above method you still got to see some deep stains on your chair then you have to opt for spot cleaning.

Apply a few drops of rubbing alcohol to a small towel and before starting spot cleaning make sure to confirm whether it damages the upholstery or not to do so apply it somewhere which can be hidden easily like beneath the seat. Once it gets confirmed that it won’t damage the leather, start rubbing other areas.

4. Armrest, base, and frame

After cleaning all the upholstered areas of a gaming chair, it’s time to clean the Armrest, frame, and Base of the chair. It is quite easy to clean these areas.
For the armrest make sure you have removed the armrest cover if it has otherwise you start cleaning.
If we talk about the solution then you just need a sponge and some water mixed with detergent.
Clean the surface of the base, frame, and armrest with that solution, and make sure you dry them with a dry cloth after cleaning each part.

5. Clean caster Wheels

After using it for so many months you may definitely feel that your caster wheels are not as soft as they used to be!
The only reason is with time they stored a lot of junk and hair in it which makes it hard to move your gaming chair here and there, especially on a carpet.

How to clean them?

  1. First of all, flip over your chair.
  2. Detach the caster from its base and if they are not detachable continue it.
  3. Remove all those visible clumps of hair.
  4. Vacuum the casters to clean the inside junk and you can blow them with an air blower.
  5. Spray inside with a WD-40.
